2015 Met Ball Beauty

The 2015 Met Ball was held Monday in New York. This years theme was China: Through the Looking Glass. Here are some stand out beauty looks (and products) from the night.

Rihanna’s gown and stunning headpiece were perfectly complimented by her Makeup. Mylah Morales created her look with an Asian-inspired color palette (lots of pinks) and used blush on both her eyes and lips. The focus of the look were her bold brows. She used Diorshow Brow Styler (one of our faves) to define and groom.

Selena Gomez went for a sexy and sophisticated look with a sleek updo, dark red lips, a smokey cat eye and lots of lashes to really emphasize the drama.

Kendall Jenner – the face of Estee Lauder – showed up with defined brows, dewy skin and a sleek wing liner. To achieve the wing, Kendall’s makeup artist used Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Zero-Smudge Liquid Eyeliner in Black and defined her long lashes with Little Black Primer. To create those bold brows, the Automatic Brow Pencil was applied and finished off with a pink pout by applying Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Insatiable Ivory all over her lips.

Cara Delevingne made a statement with her full sleeve faux body art, nude lips and some seriously sexy smokey eyes.

All hail the Queen Bee – Beyoncé – when it comes to any appearance, her makeup is always flawless and coordinates with the clothes she wears. This year at the 2015 Met Ball, Beyoncé wore only affordable makeup that you can get at your nearest drug store… and yes, we do mean L’Oreal!

To create Beyonce’s mod eye, her makeup artist used a mix of L’Oreal Paris Infallible Eye Shadows in Endless Sea and Infinite Sky ($8.00) which stood out beautifully against her sun kissed skin. She finished off the look with the Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara in black.

Get the look: Selena Gomez at the 2014 American Music Awards

Selena Gomez looked SO good while preforming her newest single “The Heart wants what it wants” at the 2014 American Music Award’s.

For her walk down the red carpet, Selena wore her hair in a low bun and a bold rep lip to match her dangling statement earrings. For her face, Makeup artist Jake Bailey used NYX’s Illuminator in Chaotic to highlight parts of her face like her cheekbones. Jake used the NYX Dream Catcher Palette in Dusk Till Dawn on her eyes and created a beautiful bronze haze and finished it off with a sophisticated lip using NYX Simply Red Lip Cream pencil in Leading Lady. 

For her performance, Selena kept the same makeup on but switching her lip colour to match her light nude-pink dress. She changed her hair from up to down with long extensions in and her hair with light curls and two front pieces clipped up.

 

#beautynote For a full body glow like Selena’s mix a lotion (La Mer, reparative body lotion was used on the star) with your favourite illuminating lotion or powder.

 

Met Gala 2014 Beauty Breakdown

The Hair and Makeup styles at this years Met Gala were very Reminiscent of Old Hollywood Glamour mixed with some Modern trends. There were many side parts, elegant up dos and flawless makeup which included lots of lashes and dramatic lips. The stars really made a statement on this years red carpet. There were so many show stopping looks we found it hard to just pick a few. Check out our Beauty Breakdown below!

 

Kim Kardashian was on the tamer side of the makeup spectrum with side swept waves, glossy lips and a slightly winged liner.

 

Sarah Jessica Parker’s fresh twist-meets-bouffant was a showstopper. Both the back and front were extravagant!

 

Emma Stone wore a textured twisted side “5 braid” that was paired with sun kissed skin and 

bronzed lids. All cream makeup products were used instead of powders to keep the look relaxed and fresh. Her lips were layered with Revlon ColorBurst Balm Stain in Cherish and Chanel Aqua Crayon Lip Color Stick in Rosewood.

Beauty Note:

 

To get Emma’s freshly chopped bangs to stay back Hairstylist, Mara Roszak applied product to towel dried (not sopping wet) hair and her bangs were brushed and pinned to the side while they air dried. She finished off the style by setting them with a blowdryer, slightly separating strands with fingers and finishing off with hairspray.  

 

Nicole Richie wore a minimalist makeup look displaying the perfect way to wear glitter on your lids and still look classy.

 

Rihanna rocked a 90’s inspired teased ponytail with loose tendrils and barettes. Her complection was flawless with strip faux lashes and soft lavender lips.

Beauty Tip:

To define a light lip colour like Rihanna’s slightly line the cupid’s bow only with a liner 1-2 shades deeper then the lipstick. 

 

Cara Delevigne wore a side swept style with bouncy curls. Her eyes were lightly rimmed on the inside with black liner. Bronze eyeshadow was applied and blended out for a smokey look.

 

Blake Lively’s golden locks swept onto one side with retro waves exaggerated lashes and a pop of pink (NARS Salsa liner) on the lips.was on point!

 

Selena Gomez paired her burgundy gown with matching lips, liquid lined eyes and thick faux lashes. Her rolled up-do was perfection. We can see this being worn on many brides this wedding season!

 

Rita Ora rocks red lips like no other but can we talk about that sleek and shiny side part!?  Her hairstylist played it up perfectly by applying a strip of gold leaf!

Alexa Chung ditched her signature winged eye and let her natural beauty shine though wearing sheer taupes and chocolate cream colors on her eyes. Her top lids were then lined with liquid between the lashes to bulk up the lash line. The look was completed with a subtle pink lip.

Beauty Note:

Alexa’s Makeup Artist Tamah Krinsky says to push in cream crayons or shadows with your finger. It softens all the edges, so instead of looking harsh it gives off more of a wash of color on the eye.

 

 

Lupita Nyong’o fashioned a one-sided pompadour look, paired with a green headband that matched her dress and purple eyeshadow.

 

Taylor Swift was back to her signature look full with a cherry lip (she wore NARS Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil), winged lined and shoulder length retro curls.

 

Queen Bey was in full force, dominating the red carpet with a twenties style beaded veil and a dramatic Aubergine lip that picked up the colour in her chandelier earrings.ubergine lip.

Best Beauty from the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards took place in Brooklyn, New York last night. I am sure we all observed a few extraordinary celebrity occurances at the awards.  From Gaga’s opener, to Miley’s raunchy (and inappropriate) performance, to JT stealing the show with his 20 minute medley – we were definitely left entertained to say the least. Also including the rumoured and highly anticipated *NSYNC reunion followed by Katy Perry closing the show under the Brooklyn Bridge with her new single “Roar”. Lastly, Taylor Swift was seemingly caught telling ex-boyfriend Harry Styles to “shut the f**k up” at the Awards.  Indeed, this year’s VMA’s was definitely one to make headlines. But, of course, despite all the uproar, we did see some beauty trends that were definitely noteworthy!

Here are our favourite Beauty looks from the red carpet.

Katy Perry let her natural beauty shine through with a sleek high pony, dewy skin. We are obsessed with her perfectly groomed brows that tie this look together.

Taylor played up on an old Hollywood glam look with a cherry lip and pinned up curls. We love how she portrays a sexy look and still keeps it classy.

Selena shows us a perfect example of how you can play up both eyes and lips without being over the top. She is right on trend with her cat eye and berry lip.  Also, her poise and confidence is definitely very admirable.

Lady Gaga actually had normal, voluminous hair for a few minutes last night! I don’t think she has ever rocked quite a normal hairdo! We loved her bouncy curls and perfectly contoured cheekbone when she was photographed after congratulating One Direction.

Talk about the most gorgeous bronze skin tone! Ciara’s skin glowed as she posed for the camera on the red carpet.  And it wasn’t just her face – the dress she wore gave us a good clue that her sunkiss glow naturally encompasses her entire body!
